“LOVE YOUR CULTURE THROUGH SOCIETY (LYCS 2019)

On 28th September 2019, SDGA was invited by Politeknik METrO Betong Sarawak to give a talk during their “Love your Culture Through Society” event which was co-organised together with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture Sarawak (MTAC) and Homestay Laobang Batu, Serian.

The 1-day event was held at the Dewan Batu Lin in Kampung Lobang Batu and officiated by YB Dato Sri Michael Manyin Anak Jawong, Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research Sarawak. The purpose of the event was to encourage the participation and collaboration between Politeknik and government agencies, local bodies and NGOs in the teaching and learning process not just in Politeknik but outside as well.

SDGA was represented by its Treasurer-General, Mr. Rudy Ujang and fellow ExCo member, Mr. Marvin Sait Winston Bale. Other agencies and association who also took part in the programme are the Forestry Department of Sarawak, Sarawak Forestry Corporation and the Sarawak Tour Guide Association.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in the program especially Mr. Anderian Baling from Politeknik METrO Betong Sarawak for inviting us to be play a part in the day’s program. We should note that he is also an active member of SDGA. We look forward to more collaborations with Politeknik METrO Betong in future programs & events.

 

PROGRAM CERAMAH MOTIVASI DAN KLINIK UPSR MURID TAHUN 6 SEKOLAH RENDAH DI KAWASAN SUAI, NIAH

Pada 23 Ogos 2019 yang lepas, SDGA Bintulu dengan kerjasama SK Kpg Iran, Sk Suai1, SK Sg. Sebatu, SK Kpg. Tegageng dan SK Rh. Goyang telah mengadakan Program Ceramah Motivasi dan Klinik UPSR.

Program tersebut dianjurkan di SK Kpg. Iran dan dihadiri oleh 122 orang murid tahun 6 dari 5 buah sekolah tersebut yang menduduki UPSR tahun ini.

Turut menyertai program pada kali ini adalah pihak dari Pusat Latihan Teknologi Tinggi (ADTEC) Bintulu yang menyampaikan maklumat kepada para ibubapa murid tentang program-program pengajian yang ditawarkan oleh ADTEC Bintulu. Ini adalah kerana pemilihan program yang tepat adalah satu perkara penting bagi memastikan kebolehpasaran seseorang lepasan sekolah atau graduan.

Sementara itu, ibubapa juga turut diberikan sesi ceramah khas memandangkan penglibatan aktif ibu bapa adalah sangat penting bagi melahirkan murid yang cemerlang bukan saja dari segi pencapaian akademik bahkan dari segi sahsiah diri.

Ucapan khas terima kasih ditujukan kepada YB Majang Renggi (ADUN N70 Samalaju) yang telah memberi sumbangan untuk menjayakan program tersebut serta masa dan kehadirannya untuk pelancaran program. Juga tidak lupa semua ahli jawatankuasa, pihak dari ADTEC, pihak sekolah, guru-guru, ibubapa dan murid-muridyang sama-sama memastikan program tersebut satu sukses.

 

PROGRAM ASPIRASI MINDA at RH Jeffery Irut, Lubuk Bukut, Balingian

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

On 5th June 2019, SDGA organised a community outreach entitled “SDGA Cares; Program Aspirasi Minda” at Rumah Jeffery Irut, Lubuk Bukut, Balingian. The Association was led by its President, Mr Gary Ningkan and Deputy-President, DR Jawing Chunggat as well as their fellow ExCo Members.

The purpose of the initiative is to motivate the younger generation to do well in their studies as well as to raise awareness especially in rural areas on the importance of having a constructive community when it comes to children’s education.

Main highlights of the program included:-

  1. A motivational talk on the roles of parents and longhouse folks in children’s education by Ms. Hazellyn Rimbar, Principal Assistant Secretary (STEM & English Section) from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Research.
  2. ‘Aspirasi Minda’ activity conducted by Mr. Jordan Anthony Layan, Students Engagement Officer of Swinburne Sarawak whereby the longhouse children were encouraged to share and express their future aspirations and ambitions.
  3. Distribution of school stationery sets to 35 school children and goody bags which consisted of stationery essentials such as pens, pencils, erasers, colour pencils and colouring book.

In his speech during the event, Mr. Gary Ningkan, also showed his support and spoke of the importance of using English in the teaching of Science and Mathematics.
SDGA also managed to squeezed in time to have a brief visit to the local school which serves the longhouse in the area, SK Kuala Lemai.

Earlier on 1st June 2019, an exco member from SDGA also distributed some 20 school stationery sets to the longhouse children of Rumah Sungai Rusa in Pakan.
