Venue: Invent Space
SDGA had the pleasure of welcoming a courtesy visit from the UNIMAS APEL Centre at iNVENT Space.
Joining us from UNIMAS were Dr Junidah Lamaming and Ms. Melissa Malini, who shared valuable insights into the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) certifications offered by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). Representing SDGA were President Ts. Rizzo Mungka, Deputy Secretary-General Ms. Shalene Durie, and Executive Committee Member Ms. Phoenicia Christ.
The discussion focused on potential collaborations to raise awareness about fast-track learning options for individuals who wish to further their studies or advance their careers. APEL provides an alternative pathway for learners to apply to colleges or universities of their choice, recognising their prior learning and professional experience. Individuals can pursue Bachelor’s, Master’s, and even Doctoral degrees, opening up new opportunities for personal and professional growth through APEL.
Some of the key benefits of APEL include;
- Providing access to higher education for non-traditional learners.
- Recognising and valuing prior learning and work experience.
- Reducing the time and cost required to obtain formal qualifications.
- Enhancing career prospects and supporting lifelong learning.
- Minimising redundancy by acknowledging skills already acquired.
SDGA and the UNIMAS APEL Centre both share a vision of making higher education more accessible and inclusive, empowering more individuals, especially within the Dayak community, to reach their full potential.

SDGA looks forward to working closely with the UNIMAS APEL Centre to help create greater awareness and inspire more learners to take that next big step in their educational journey.
