Empowering Youth Seminar

Around 100 young Dayak professionals as well as undergraduates from local higher institutes of learning attended the one-day SDGA Youth Seminar 2014 on 18th October 2014 (Saturday). The theme for the Youth Seminar was “Paradigm Shift In The New Millennium (Anjakan Paradigma Alaf Baru)” and was held at St. Faith Church Auditorium, Kuching. The seminar aims to provide opportunities for participants to exchange ideas and information, to think outside the box and to equip them with skills to become effective leaders.

The three main objectives of the Youth Seminar are to create greater awareness on specific issues that affecting livelihood; to create a platform to exchange ideas and gather feedback on issues; and lastly to provide avenue to polish their leadership and organising skills.

Datuk John Tenewi Nuek, the former Malaysian Ambassador for Myanmar, Venezuela and Mexico delivered the keynote address.

Three other key topics were also presented, namely by Dr. Dusit Jaul on knowledge based economy, Wilfred Landong on Building a Corporate Dayak Society and Paul Raja on Maximising Economic Returns on NCR land.

SDGA is planning to do a roadshow throughout the state and Miri will be the next venue. It is hoped that more participants will join and take advantage of an avenue where they can express themselves freely; participate and contribute as well as enhance their understanding and knowledge on areas that are important to them.
