Saturday, 6 September 2025

Venue: Rumah Panjang Selindong Ulu, Tr. Rimong

The Heritage Handicrafts & Garment Crafting Empowerment programme entered its first week with the successful rollout of its inaugural craft workshop, featuring Traditional Kuas Balau, a distinctive heritage craft originating from Sri Aman.

During the session, participants were introduced to the history and cultural significance of Kuas Balau, gaining a deeper appreciation of its role in Sarawak’s traditional artistry. The workshop also provided hands-on learning opportunities, where participants explored garment pattern design and sewing techniques inspired by the traditional art form.

The session marked an important step in preserving cultural roots while encouraging creative expression and skill development among participants. By blending heritage knowledge with practical craftsmanship, the programme aims to inspire new generations to carry forward the artistry and values passed down by their ancestors.

The workshop reflects the broader goal of empowering communities through heritage-based skills that celebrate identity while opening pathways for sustainable creative practices.
