Friday, 12 September 2025

Venue: Alter Space Gallery & Studio, Miri

As part of the Heritage Handicrafts & Garment Crafting Empowerment programme in Lubok Antu, the Sarawak Dayak Graduates Association (SDGA) proudly showcased local creativity at the Indigenous Exchange Festival (IXF 2025), held at Alter Space Gallery & Studio here from 12 to 14 September 2025.

At the SDGA booth, visitors were given the opportunity to experience the artistry and craftsmanship of programme trainer Madam Angelia David of Carana Enterprise, alongside the works of programme participants from Lubok Antu, Miss Bareng and Madam Dina Muyang. The showcase highlighted the skills developed through the empowerment programme while celebrating the depth of Dayak heritage craftsmanship.

Participation in the festival also provided valuable exposure for the participants to the craft and heritage jewellery market, allowing them to immerse themselves further in the journey of cultural entrepreneurship. The experience enabled them to engage directly with visitors, exchange knowledge and gain insights into market appreciation for heritage-based creations.

The showcase featured distinctive traditional pieces such as the Kuas Balau fabric and unique Iban accessories, a treasured costume with origins in Sri Aman, reflecting the richness and continuity of Dayak cultural identity.

SDGA was especially honoured to receive visits from international guests who expressed admiration for the intricacy and beauty of Dayak craftsmanship. Their appreciation underscored the universal value of indigenous cultural heritage and its ability to resonate across cultures.

SDGA extends its heartfelt appreciation to the Indigenous Exchange Festival (IXF) organisers for the invitation and for providing a meaningful platform to celebrate, share and connect through heritage and creativity.
